The most commonly used and being suggested by many is the Shadow spec for it is the de-facto DPS spec and often seems to be the best in leveling. But as to many specs, there is a setback in choosing this spec which is the time wasted in waiting too long for DPS going. However, the alternative spec is the Smite spec.

Here are the ways on how to level fast in the Smite spec: You need to start in Shadow with Spirit Tap 3/3 then you should go Holy for Divine Fury 5/5, Holy Spec 5/5, Desperate player 1/1, Searing Light 2/2, Spell Warding 4/5, Holy Reach 2/2, Spiritual Guidance at 5/5 and Surge of Light 2/2. Upon reaching level 36, you need to start putting points in discipline. The following will help you in Discipline point placements: Twin Disciplines 5/5, Meditation 3/3, Inner Focus 1/1, Improved Inner Fire 3/3, improved PW : Fortitude 2/2;Shield 3/3, Mental Agility 3/3, Soul Warding 1/1, Reflective Shield 2/2, Mental Strength 2/5, Focused Power 2/2, Enlightenment 3/3, Focused Will 3/3, Rapture 3/3, Power Infusion 1/1, Pain suppression 1/1.

Other tips you need to consider is that you should have a good amount of water supply as you quest to higher levels. Also, you will need to keep your gear upgraded. 

For the initial 5 levels, spamming Smite is just enough for you to get through. Once you are in level 5, make sure to get a Wand from the Auction House and use it. By making use of it, you will do better in DPS than your other attacks, so just save mana for your healing. 

Upon acquiring Mind Blast, opening a mob at max range is advisable. You would use Smite in doing it, immediately Mind Blast then spam for more Smites. If the enemy would be able to reach you, wand them to death but if you find it taking you a long time then use Power sword. Protect yourself with a Shield before the enemy reaches you but continue to spam Smites. At this point, you will know the importance of water supply because it will require you to drink frequently.  

When you have reached level 20, you would get the amazing Holy Fire. Use Holy Fire before Mind Blast in killing enemies. To save mana, drop Mind Blast on your rotation. These will be the easy ways on how to level all the way to level 80. You would get things like Inner Focus and Surge of Light from talents, these are straightforward tactics so you do not need to change the way you play. Occasionally, you would get free spells which will mean less drink time.
