Choosing the best gear for your character can be a difficult task because it is a known time waster. However, there are ways for you to know if you are using the appropriate type of gear during certain situations. The best strategy for you to choose the best gear is through testing it. It is also important to avail for yourself more than one piece of gear for each kind.  

If you want to focus on DPS, it is essential for you to have a good add on which is able to record your performance such as the Recount. When testing a certain gear, you can merely attack an enemy for you to see its durability. Testing it on a dummy can also be a good idea. For good results of testing you should keep in mind to test these gears on same span of time. It would help you a lot if you are comparing one gear to another using one full minute of your time. If you are able to see difference in DPS points in testing the gears, it is important for you to take note.

What gear should you look for? Speaking about power leveling, the higher the level of the item, the better it would be for you. Most groups usually and practically look for buddies who have reached Superior Armor rating and gear on level 200 is most likely preferred. Most power leveling players would work towards getting the complete set for maximum results.

For PvE, you need to look for the Tier 7 and Tier 8 raid gear. Tier 7, can normally be found on Obsidian Sanctum, Naxxramas, Vault of Archavon and heroic versions of Archavon the Stone Watcher. On the other hand, Tier 8 can be found on Ulduar, Vault of Archavon and Emalon, the Storm Watcher. These are the current best PvE sets in the game.

WOW PvP gears are gears which make your character very powerful. In PvP setting, the Resilience stats of your character would basically improve. The best way to acquire these types of gears is through battlegrounds. Even without using PvP gear, you can do battlegrounds.

Always keep in mind that as a character of the World of Warcraft who wants to level up fast, it is not your main focus to get the best gears. These items maybe are accessories which aid you in difficult quests, they are still not considered to be part of hardcore tactics in power leveling. The gears which can be acquired on your long ways on quests are just enough to get you through the different game levels.
